Korea 2017 – 1/10

Back to Korea again after a year! Hehe ๐Ÿค“

DAY 1 – 14 June’17

Our flight was in the wee hours of the day at 0010 and hence we had to leave for the airport on the 13th. As there were four of us with 1 big luggage each ๐Ÿ˜‚, we had to split 2 cars ๐Ÿ˜‚. Thanks โค๏ธ for fetching part of us there ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿค—.

On board the plane with our in-flight meal ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ I had one of the worst flight ever all thanks to falling sick the day before the flight. A Super bad sore throat along with blocked nose. It can’t be any better Omg. I honestly don’t think I can survive it twice ๐Ÿคข. Arriving in Seoul, Incheon airport ๐Ÿ›ฌ

Arriving at our airbnb ๐Ÿ  Had lunch at a restaurant in Hongdae. The exact same place I had my last lunch back in Ng last trip ๐Ÿ˜‚โ€‹

We then went around exploring and window shopped before watching a magic show๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹

We then went back at around 8 and ordered Delivery for dinner as we were dead beat from exhaustion ๐Ÿ˜Š

Day 1 – Hong Kong 2016 #2princessesand1dwarf

Hello everybodehhhย ๐Ÿ˜Š

I went on a trip to Hong Kong for 8 days with Shi Hui and CJ! We finally tick off 1 of the item off our to do list! (Although the plan was supposed to be travel to Korea together in 10 yearsย  ๐Ÿ˜‚ #samesame) It was kind of an insane trip with super last minute planning, doing ridiculous things and almost missing our flight backย ๐Ÿ˜…. Then again, we only live once and we will only be young onceย ๐Ÿ˜‰

DAY 1 (14th December 2016) – MongKok

Our flight is at 9plus in the morning and hence we had to take the cab at around 6ish am. I had about only 3hours of sleep thanks to my procrastination to pack my luggage. We then had KFC for breakfast before heading in to the airside to shop at the duty free before making our way to the gates.
Unleashing our excitementย โ˜บ๏ธ:
img_8128

Everybody was on time and we were able to smoothly board the plane and depart without any much delays.ย At the boarding gate:

Arrival at Hong Kong airport!ย ๐Ÿ›ฌ
img_8160

Heading to the immigration after disembarking the plane!
img_8468

After going through immigration, we then bought our HK sim cards, purchase some snacks from 7/11 and bought our MTR card to take the trains!

***Sim cards can be bought from most convenience store such as 7/11/circle K or telecoms at around 80HKD. You can activate it for either 5 or 10 days. 5days entitles you to 4g, 1.5gb data while 10days gives you only 3g but for unlimited usage. All you have to do is to follow the instructions as per given for either of the activation.

***MTR cards/ Octopus pass can be purchased from the Airport express information counter. Min top up is 100 HKD with 50HKD refundable deposit.

One interesting was that you do not have to tap in to take the airport express train! Instead, you tap out after reaching your destination instead. That is something really different from Singapore.
The view from the Airport express train:

We then alighted at Tsing Yi to switch to the orange line and then at Lai King to the red line before arriving at Mong Kok station.
img_8174
img_8180

Arriving at our airbnb! The building’s exterior does look a little scary thoย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Link to our airbnb guest room!
Its a really small room for the 3 of us. We expected it to be small but it was actually even smaller than that. It was definitely not the best size for the 3 of us but the room was actually rather clean other than an encounter with 2 baby roaches on the first 2 days๐Ÿ˜•๐Ÿ˜•. There’s also fresh towels everyday so it isn’t that bad after all, although i was so tempted to move out on the second night.ย ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…
IMG_9870.JPG

We then went out to find food for dinner! We were dying of hunger. But these 2 just love their alley life.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”img_8190
We wanted to have dim sum for dinner but could not really find any so we end up in this SzeChuan / Hong Kong eatery. As they had some dim sum, we thought why not. The food here was alright, nothing special but nothing bad. The staff there were really nice in contrast to their ‘Hong kong people’ attitude.ย img_8193

Our next destination was Victoria Harbour!
Beautiful lighting from a hotel.
img_8196
img_8205img_8265
While on the way there, we spotted this area where you can dispense your own postcards and write some wishes for the new year for free! So why not?ย ๐Ÿ˜Š
img_8213
At the harbour! While waiting for the light show,ย img_8223img_8288img_8225
Honestly the light show isnt exactly worth the time, but the view, weather and company was priceless.
Sat on the railings, gazing into the waters with good companyย ๐Ÿ‘ #Thisishowweshouldbelivinglifeย img_8231img_8244We then went off for some supper to fill out tummies again! We tried some street food, curry fishball and the ‘chee cheong fan’
img_8260img_8258
and then to temple street for some ‘shopping’ and dim sum again๐Ÿ˜…img_8469
*Pardon my hideous smile*

That was it for our first day! I feel that we did accomplish much for the first day. We definitely do feel the ‘holiday’ spirit and we were glad to have each other as company and tick something off our bucket list! It felt so great to have a nice chat with the cold wind blowing and at the same time away from all the stress after exams and the trimester. #ourverymuchneededbreak

Korea Seoul Day 8/8 – 30/03/16

DAY 8 โ€“ 30 March 2016[LAST DAY]ย

Good morning! ๐Ÿ™‚ We’re leaving Korea today ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
For today, the first thing we did was going to Lotte mart at Seoul station to get some ‘groceries’ to bring home to Singapore!
P.s// WE WERE SO SAD

IMG_1968IMG_1970Ain’t this heaven?ย ๐Ÿ˜ฑIMG_1972

We even bought home a ramen pot. Yea, call us madย ๐Ÿ˜…ย IMG_1973

After carrying a box and paperbags filled with groceries and taking the subway back to our guesthouse, we had to repack our luggage and get ready to check out! So not willing to leave this place๐Ÿ˜–

Oops๐Ÿ˜…
img_1974
We abandoned the box in the end…..ย img_1975

img_1976

Can’t get any sadder pleaseย ๐Ÿ˜ฉimg_1977
After checking out, we left our baggage at the reception with one of theย most friendly person ever I should say!
I’ll miss the super green ‘grass’ patch and bright lighting
img_1978
Headed to the cafe coffee prince just nearby our place! Super aesthetic place but the waitress there was just๐Ÿ™„
img_1979img_1981
We also went back to the 900won macaroon place and also ‘dabao-ed’ some back to SG!ย ใ…‹ใ…‹ใ…‹img_1983img_1989img_1990
We then continued exploring even more of Hongdaeย ๐Ÿ˜‚ Totally looking like local already pleaseย ๐Ÿ˜‰img_1993
Finally spotted some rare blossoms during our week there. Just a few days before, the trees were totally bare.ย img_2004img_2002
This iconic place when my phone automatically connected to the wifi and TP’s app notified me of our final results releaseย ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„ Mixed feelings regarding that up till now…ย img_1995
Our final authentic meal in korea! We went for homely dishes that was really affordable and so filling gosh! All these for less than 20 000won. (P.S it was in a BBQ restaurantย ๐Ÿ˜‚ )img_2012
img_2009
We then continued strolling at the little shops and sat here initially to tie my shoelace or something but it ended up being a very nice comfy spot๐Ÿ˜Š
img_2015img_2018img_2019
Ended up at another cafe for more coffeeย ๐Ÿ˜…img_2021img_2032
Evening in Hongdaeย ๐Ÿ˜‡img_2038img_2039
The quieter area of Hongdae right next to our Guesthouseย ๐Ÿ˜‡img_2044
Collected our baggage and getting ready to head to the airport!
img_2045
Yes our amount of baggage isย ๐Ÿ˜ถimg_2049
Bittersweetย ๐Ÿ˜žimg_2050Our initial plan was to take the subway to the airport. However as you can see, our baggage weight is kind of too much for us to handleย ๐Ÿ˜… We had an extremely huge problem dragging it like 50m of straight road. ย Spent 3 mins helping each to lift it up the curb and tripping on rocks and bumby road. Finally the thought of having to carry the luggage down the stairs convinced us this is enough๐Ÿ˜…. We ended up taking a cab! However, we were afraid we did not have enough cash on hand and the cabbie couldn’t speak English OMG. At that moment, We were proud to be avid drama and kpop fansย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ We then reached the airport safely and the cabbie even tried to initiate conversations but it was hard thanks to language barrier but it was all good! Thanks to his friendliness, we ended our trip in Seoul with 10 out of 10 stars! ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ He even lowered the fare for us thinking we might not have enough cash! Thank you Uncle for being so nice!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘img_2054
And those black black pieces are trails of Shihui’s luggage rubber wheels falling apart after measuring the weight at the backย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Laughed so hard I almost fainted there๐Ÿ˜‚.
And it’s such a jinxed moment when all my baggage’s weight added together is the exact same as hersย ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

img_2060
While waiting for our food outside Lotteria . At that godly hour, that’s the only food outlet still open… At times like this, Changi Airport’s still the bestย ๐Ÿ˜Œ
img_2057
We were almost late for boarding our flight but there’s definitely still time for some selfies right?ย ๐Ÿ˜…
img_2062img_2059img_2064img_2063
On the plane๐Ÿ™img_2067The food was awesomely, DISAPPOINTING especially when airplane food is something I always look forward to.

Korea Seoul Day 7/8 -29/03/16

DAY 7 โ€“ 29 ย March 2016 โ€“ Hongdae/ Underground shopping Malls/ Stylenanda

Good Morning from our guesthouse! >.<

IMG_1888.JPG

We started our morning with coffee once again.๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€ This time at a coffee place 2mins from our guest house called Coffeebe. Loved how the coffee place has such a homely feel. The barista is also a very nice lady.ย ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Šย IMG_1915

IMG_1900IMG_1904We were so sad that it is our second last day here already though.

We then head to the main hongdae area to do some last minute shopping as well as to fully explore the whole main hongdae area as well! The funny thing is how we realized that there was actually a more straight forward way to get to the main hongdae area from our guesthouse.

emoji

We then decided to Jjampong for lunch! It is something like spicy seafood noodles. We chose Mr Paik’s restaurant since most of their local university students seem to frequent that place.
IMG_1917

This was it! It also came with some pickled radish. If my memory did not fail me, thisย gigantic bowl only cost about 5000won?!
IMG_1916.JPG

Address:
*Could not find the address online*
However it somewhere located in the second/third lane after exiting from subway station exit 8 and walking straight down.

Next stop was to gangnam to meet Shihui’s cousin’s friend.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

IMG_1921

We then headed to some underground shopping malls to purchase some last minute items we hesitated to get the other day.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
IMG_1923

I kind of have a thing for this green patch on the floor in the subway.
IMG_1924
This is one of the many 10000 won bag shops you can find all over the streets and underground shopping area.ย IMG_1926

After all the shopping, we headed back to Hongdae area to have dinner! We practically gave up following our itenary onย what to have for dinner since we always had such a hard time finding the restaurant. We decided on Army Stew (Budae Jigae) since we were not able to have it the day other day.
IMG_1944.JPG
We only ordered one pot of this and were glad we did not order more because it was just right for our appetites!
IMG_1928IMG_1931
Overall we were pleased with the quantity and quality! Also, this pot only cost 24000 won without any additional add-ons. Also, somehow the spam in this pot tasted so so so good! Almost wanted to buy cans of these home.

Address:
*Once again no address*
Located in the main food street where most people do their busking. The shop looks very wood-ish so it is pretty easy to find!

After filling our stomachs, we tried to find our way to Stylenanda. However we got lost in between and had to ask the locals for help. It was hard as they could not understand our accent. They were nice enough to help out google using their map and let us take picture of the map. [We couldn’t use our phone’s map since our data ran out from getting lost too much.]
IMG_1945.JPG
Super thankful though! ๐Ÿ™‚

When we finally found the place. HALLELUJAHย ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ˜Œ
IMG_1951IMG_1952

The gorgeous interior!
IMG_1946IMG_1948

We also tried out the photo booth and somehow we don’t ย look as good as how we expected to be.ย ๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜‘๐Ÿ˜‘

IMG_2200.JPG

We were craving for some deserts and this tiramisu ice cream that seems like a trend here.
IMG_1958.JPG
We stood outside the store to eat this and created such a commotion there.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Breaking the cup half way for no reason and then shivering because it was so cold with the wind blowing and then laughing so hard for all the reasons and also for no reasons at all! Though we may seem crazy but those are the funny and memorable moments I wouldn’t exchange anything for.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

We then bought some mini kimbaps to have with our soju back in our guest house. We had such a hard time figuring out how to explain takeaway to the auntie and we ordered, she immediately knew and packed it in a bag for us, making all our efforts thinking how to say it go to vain๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. Love ya auntie โค

*Those carmex lip balms are the bomb!*
*Super moisturizing although i bought it thanks to the Produce 101 girls advertising them.๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜*

That was all we did for day 7! Nothing special but full of memories!
Here’s a snapchat video from day 7:

Not brave enough to ride it, so I waited here for Shi Hui to come out alive. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…IMG_1807

IMG_1815IMG_1813IMG_1814

IMG_1827IMG_1819IMG_1821
We were like freaking out at this because we were afraid we wouldn’t know how to work the car ย ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿ˜… .ย IMG_1817IMG_1835IMG_1830
IMG_1850IMG_1841
Saying goodbye to Everland ๐Ÿ˜ฆย IMG_1846After taking the same bus back to Gangnam Station and alighting at the exact same stop, we headed back to Hongdae for dinner.

We were supposed to had army stew for dinner but we tried really hard to find it but could not. Hence, in order to not waste any more time, we decided to just head into a random restaurant that has the trip advisor signย ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

Apparently, it is a BBQ restaurant! We had no idea what to order and hence ordered 3 portion of meat and cheese in total!

IMG_1857IMG_1859IMG_1886
There’s just something special about korean meat! It’s so juicy and seriously so yummy! Also, so many side dishes were given with it! That’s something you probably won’t even see in Singapore.ย IMG_1855IMG_1856IMG_1861Not to forget, the staff here are all really helpful! As Shi Hui and I seriously suck at cooking the meat and all, the people here would take the initiative to help you until they see that you are able to manage it on your own! Kudos!ย ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Address:
Choi Go Zip
Hongik Univ Store –
161-15, Donggyo-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul 02..333.8892

We then walked down the street and saw this shop called Shoopen. AND OMG THE THINGS HERE AREย ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ So many of their items are at a ridiculously affordable price for the really good quality! We almost went crazy but we did manage to keep our calm. *PROUD*๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰
IMG_1872IMG_1862IMG_1863IMG_1868

After buying some things, we then head home for a small drink!

We really wanted to try out soju….. and here it is!ย ๐Ÿ˜ Surprisingly, one bottle costs only about SGD2 ?! It is really cheap for an alcoholic drink that has about 20% alcoholic level! [P.S weย were nowhere near drunkย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚][In fact, we still can casually pack our luggage and stuff]ย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

IMG_1878.JPG

That’s all for the day!
