Korea 2017 โ€“ Day 5/10 โœˆ๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚18 June 2017 – Sunday

Today’s itineraryย Tosokchon Sangyetang > Gyeogbokgung Palace > Bukchon Hanok village > Insadong > Dongdaemun > Hongdae

Hey guys I’m rewriting this post since I kind of accidentally deleted it.ย ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Our first stop of the day is Tosokchon Samgyetang which is near the Palace. This place is really famous and known to most tourists and locals. As they can get really busy during the weekends and peak hours, we came here for lunch before heading to the palace.

Tosokchon Samgyetangย
Address:ย 5, Jahamun-ro 5-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul

Directions:ย Take exit 2 of Gyeongbokgung station, walk straight for about 150m before heading into the alley for 10m.ย IMG_7236IMG_7242

We then headed to the palace by heading back into the same exit and taking a different exit to the palace to avoid the hot sun.ย ๐Ÿ˜€ย This is my third time here and I cannot get over how beautiful this place is. The palace is like a teeny bit of their rich history located right in the middle of the city.ย ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ย IMG_7260IMG_7265

After touring around the palace and taking many pictures, we then took the subway to Anguk station to go to Bukchon Hanok village. It is actually possible to walk there from the palace but being the lazy us oh wells๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
We decided to be smart asses and not use the citymappers app and rely on the map that we saw at the subway station. In the end, we got lost and had to U-turn again to get back to where we started from. We end up taking a break at Starbucks first since we were exhausted alreadyย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
IMG_7521
Starting our journey again from the same exit. We GOT LOST again halfway through and happened to reach a tourist information center who gave us exact directions to the village .ย ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒIMG_7517
FINALLY! The view is definitely worth the journey tho. Super pretty! Be sure to keep your voices down as this is a residential estate and many people are living here.

Next stop, Insadong. We know we would not be able to make it there without the help of anyone, we asked one of those tourist police to help us. He gave us a map of the area and highlighted the route out for us! So thankful for that. Just take another look at the view guys.ย ๐Ÿ˜

Along the way there was a street with many stores and snacks. We stopped by the convenience store to get an ice cream. Despite the bad throat, I could not resist anymore. Then, we saw this korean snack store which once again I cannot resist. Yum yum.ย ๐Ÿ˜‹IMG_7624IMG_7630There’s just so many things to see around here.ย ๐Ÿ˜
Traditional korean costumes; Hanbok for rent.ย IMG_7634Some traditional korean candy sorthathing.ย IMG_7637IMG_7639Walked around this plaza called Ssamziegil which has alot of shops selling handicrafts and all.

Address:ย 44 Insadong-gil, Gwanhun-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South KoreaIMG_7645Walking to the end ย of the street and crossing a traffic light leads us back to the subway station. We then took it to Dongdaemun station. Taking exit 9 which leads the different fashion malls like Hello apm, doota and migilore. Firstly, we passed by theย Cheonggyecheon stream. It is so beautiful and picturesque.ย IMG_7659IMG_7655We went to have dinner first at Yoogane in one of the shophouses next to the malls. It is so good and so much cheaper than having it in Singapore. Definitely a must eat in Korea.ย IMG_7668After walking around the different malls, we headed across the street to the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). They have this light setup of many MANY roses across the whole field. Such a viewย ๐Ÿ˜ย Especially when the weather is cooling, it just feels so relaxing to take a walk along the ‘park’.ย IMG_7682IMG_7677Finally we then headed back to Hongdae area for abit of the buskings before heading back to our airbnb. Its interesting to see many young people out there performing and doing what they like during the weekends and heading back to school on weekdays.ย IMG_7714IMG_7711

Korea 2017 โ€“ Day 7/10 & Day 8/10 โœˆ๏ธ

PART 1:

20 June 2017 โ€“ Tuesday

Today’s Itinerary:  Incheon chinatown > Express bus terminal station > Gangnam

Hello everybodeh!

Today’s 1st stop is Incheon Chinatown. We headed there to get some Jajangmyeon, Jjampong and mandus! The travelling time was insane tho. It takes us almost 2 hours to get there from Hongdae. The food made it all worth it though. ๐Ÿ˜„ IMG_7934IMG_7936IMG_7938

The Jjampong is seriously delicious! The squid is just right! Not too chewy not too soft and at the same time still so flavorful. Craving for this so badly. Only if my throat was not hurting so badly, I would have wanted a whole bowl of this to myself.๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜ฃ IMG_7942IMG_7945IMG_7946My silly brother and I attempted to look like the Hyundai car logo ๐Ÿ˜… IMG_7959

Our next stop of the day is the Express bus terminal underground shopping mall again. We felt like we did not really comb (YEAP HAHA) the area enough and hence we went back to do another round of shopping which was a good choice. ๐Ÿ˜‚  We went back to the same snack store again and ordered the same food but with soondae this time. It is actually blood sausage and really common in Korea thus we wanted to give it a try. To be honest, it was not to my liking at all. The texture is soft and chewy and eaten warm. However there was this smell that I cannot comprehend. It is almost like a different version of century egg but I like century egg and not this. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Hopefully whoever else tries this will like it ๐Ÿ˜€IMG_7216IMG_7965After finishing our shopping, we then headed to Gangnam station with the intention of having Kyochon Chicken. I remembered from my last trip that the outlet in Gangnam had the BEST FRIED CHICKEN that I’ve ever eaten. HOWEVERRRRR IT WAS CLOSED DOWN ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข. We tried searching around the area and even asked their locals and they said it was gone. Hew Hew ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ข  In the end we decided to have Korean BBQ at this pretty famous restaurant. We went to the outlet in Gangnam instead of Hongdae. The meat is really good and even the bowls they used for the soup looks traditional. There happened to be this aunty working there that speaks Chinese too! ๐Ÿ˜‚ IMG_7969IMG_7971

We then shopped around Gangnam underground shopping for a little while before heading back to our airbnb. ๐Ÿ˜Š

PART 1:

21 June 2017 โ€“ Wednesday

Today’s Itinerary: Myeongdong > Seoul Station > Hongdae

Not a very exciting itinerary today but the aim was to have a more relaxing day. IMG_7988IMG_7998

We had tonkatsu for lunch at this random found restaurant that seems pretty classy but i forgot to get a picture of it because I was too hungry. ๐Ÿ˜  We also had a short break at the Starbucks.

Finally, we left for Lotte mart at Seoul station. How can one not bring home Korean snacks right?? We ended up spending over $100 sgd there. ๐Ÿ˜… ๐Ÿ˜…  IMG_8005The view outside Seoul station in the evening. IMG_8008After putting our things back at the airbnb, we went over to the main street of Hongdae for some shopping and dinner. We decided to have Korean BBQ again since we know this will be what we would miss most ๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž IMG_8011IMG_8019Being the glutton us, we wanted some fried chicken for supper. We googled for the Hongdae outlet of Kyochon chicken and make our way there. To our surprise, it was closed down! However, thank goodness they relocated to a location just nearby. They were good enough to provide maps for people looking for them and the maps were covered with plastic covers in case it rains. IMG_8020We were afraid they will be closed already but no worries they actually closed ar around 1-2am.

Thats all for these 2 days! See you guys in my post for Day 9, our second last day ๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž๐Ÿ˜ž

Korea 2017 – Day 6/10 โœˆ๏ธ

19 June 2017 – Monday

Today’s itinerary:ย
Gwangjang Tradtional Market > Ehwa Women’s university > Myeongdong

Hello! Its day 6 alreadyย ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
Our first stop for the day is the Gwangjang market where they sell alot of korean traditional food, textiles and many others. Our main purpose of going there was to experience the different food and have them for brunch.

Gwangjang Traditional market
Address:ย 88 Changgyeonggung-ro, Jongno 1(il).2(i).3(sam).4(sa), Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea
Opening hours:ย 0900 -2300 (Varies) (Closed on Sundays)
Directions:ย Take subway to Jongno5(o)-ga station and take exit 9

IMG_7727IMG_7731IMG_7733The mandu was so goodย ๐Ÿ˜‹IMG_7736IMG_7738

We then went Ewha Women’s university to take a look at how their university look and do some shopping there. Shopping is relatively cheaper at underground shopping malls and streets nearer to university.

Ewha Women’s university
Directions:ย Take subway to Ewha station and take exit 2. Walk down the street and you’ll reach the university. We took some pretty pictures there.ย ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

IMG_7804IMG_7817
Next we had a ‘coffee stop’ at Mr paik’s which was just meteres away from the university’s entrance. We bought grapefruit juice, Chocolate banana with soft serve and an Ice americano to try. BAD IDEA for someone with a sweet toothย ๐Ÿ˜‚. The ice americano was espcially bitter even after pouring in tons of sugar syrup hahaha.ย IMG_7828
We then started shopping around the area. We entered this ‘mall ?’ which was called elcube which housed different brands and shops like ABC mart, The Line store and makeup brands such as Moonshot, Medicube and Aprilskin. We went in to the Line store to take some pictures with the gigantic Brown as well as to moonshot to buy a cushion. However the guy there managed to convinced me to get a makeover from him. I was impressed guys.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚ย He did such a good job.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚ย I loved the way he drew my brows and how he managed to cover all my white spots and of course end up convincing me to get some other products. (opps) [At least I’m using them well as of now and still love it heh๐Ÿ˜]ย IMG_7834Processed with VSCO with hb1 presetAfter the makeoverย ๐Ÿ˜IMG_7858IMG_7880IMG_7864.JPGAfter shopping around the area for a longer while. We stopped byย Isaac Toastย for a tea break. We then headed back to Myeongdong for some more last minute shopping and for dinner which we end up having yoogane again because its just so good. We added additional topping of Teokbokki this time.ย IMG_7914

There were many claw machines with super cute toys in the area and my brother gave it a try but failed. HAHAHA BAD SISTER.ย ๐Ÿคฃย IMG_7926While wanting to leave Myeongdong already, we saw this Honey ice cream thing that looked so appetizing and I was secretly thinking that the honey could probably cure my sore throat.ย ๐Ÿคฃย My throat did got better the next morning tho. hehe.ย IMG_7924Tried some banana milk that we got from the convenience store on the way home as well.ย ๐ŸคฃIMG_7929

Goodnight guys and see ya’ll on Day 7!ย ๐Ÿ˜„

Korea 2017 โ€“ Day 4/10 โœˆ๏ธ

17 June 2017 – Saturday

Hey guys! I’m back with day 4 of my Korea trip!ย ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Itinerary for today: Shopping and lunch at Times square > Yeongdeungpo underground shopping > Bupyeong underground shopping > Express bus terminal underground shopping > Hongdae

First of all we started the day by getting these mini kimbaps at Hongdae subway station. YUMZ. They’re freshly made every morning too. They have other easy to go snacks like spicy rice cakes and fishcakes too that you can eat at their mini counter in the shop or simply takeout!ย ๐Ÿ˜‹ย  [I really miss the fact that you can grab these food almost anywhere at most subway stations. ]ย IMG_7181

On a side note, I use the app Citymapper alot like ALOT throughout my whole trip. As google maps does not work in Korea (Read it online), I literally shopped through the app store on my iphone to find an app that would cater to all my needs! The app is free, allows you to search in English, shows you the different stores according to distances, gives you gps direction including public transport and it even works in more than just Korea! Really recommended!!ย ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

We then headed over to Times square mall first since it will be more convenient that way. We went into a few shops like Adidas, Aland and Shoopen too! My all time favourite store, Shoopen had so many things i liked. If you guys ain’t brand conscious, this is a really good replica of the Birkenstocks at 1/6th of the price. ๐Ÿ˜ย IMG_7202

We then headed to Lotteria, a korean fast food joint for lunch! Although I was still having a really bad sore throat and flu, I had to have Lotteria again from my previous trip to Korea. The previous time Shi Hui and I could not really enjoy our food since we were literally rushing for our flight and had to gobble our food down. I ordered the Bulgogi burger! JJangย ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘IMG_7205

We then headed back to underground shopping at Yeongdeungpo station. The area is not the largest underground shopping, but there’re really some pretty good bargains especially 1000won earrings and 1000won socks.

Afterwards we headed to Bupyeong underground shopping which was a rather letdown although the place is quite big. The items there were not really the cheapest nor the trendiest although there are some that are pretty good and some korean roadshop cosmetics brand. The worst was the air conditioning being down. OMG WAS IT HOT. We left the place less than an hour upon arrival.

Our final underground shopping area for the day was the Express bus terminal station’s underground shopping (aka goto mall) which is also my favorite place based on my last trip. True to that, i bought most of my clothing items here and the place is just huge and have so so so many discounts. Most of the items are between the range of 5000 – 15000 won. From trendy clothes, gadgets and socks, all can be found here. ย We spent the longest time here today since we stopped at nearly all the clothing stores. At the end of the stretch on the left hand side upon exiting from exit 8-1, there’s a really good korean snack store. It is a good place to stop at since you would have finished shopping 1/3 of the area by the time you walk to this end. My favorite was the Udon.ย ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ย As the rice cakes are pretty spicy, the kimbap is a good food to chill that spice. The udon is seriously so good as they added some bits of kimchi and korean chilli powder mixed in perhaps anchovies soup.ย ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ย I miss it so much.ย ๐Ÿ˜“ย img_7216.jpg

After we were done shopping the area which really took a long time, we headed back to Hongdae area for dinner. All thanks to the influence of K-dramas, we really wanted to try the ‘Jokbal’ which is pig trotter. It is so so good omg. That bucket of rice is mixed with seaweed and anchovies and yes it is so good too!ย ๐Ÿ˜ย The only downside is how we had to wait ages for the trotter since there’s only one guy chopping it up, but it was worth the wait.ย ๐Ÿ˜‹ย Not to forget, it actually came with a complimentary pot of kimchi soup placed on a stove on our table too but we finished eating it before any picture because we were too hungry. oopsย ๐Ÿ˜‚IMG_7224IMG_7230

We ended our day with a short walk around Hongdae.ย ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

See ya guys on day 5!

Korea 2017 โ€“ Day 3/10 โœˆ๏ธ

16 June 2017

Hi guys!!

Today’s plan: Hongdae for Brunch > Petite France > Hongdae

We woke up rather late and ended up leaving the airbnb pretty late as well oops. Our initial plan was to go to Nami Island after Petite France but after looking at the bus schedule we realised it was going to be really rushed and hence we decided to only go for petite France.

Our first stop was to fill up our tummies. Nothing much was opened in Hongdae in the morning except for some stores like these. We decided on Jajangmyeon(4000 won) and Jamppong(4500 won) today. This Mr paik’s store can be found in many many places along with Paik’s coffee.ย ๐Ÿ‘
IMG_6901
The food was decently good for its price. Great but not the best i suppose.ย ๐Ÿ‘ย IMG_6895Next was our super long train journey to Cheongpyeong station for the Shuttle bus to Petite France. The shuttle bus ticket was 6000 won. It allows you to take the whole loop for an unlimited number of time for the day. All you have to do is to pay the bus captain 6000 won and he’ll give you the bus ticket. Afterwards, you only have to show the ticket every time you board the bus.ย IMG_7142.JPGProcessed with VSCO with hb1 presetIMG_6909IMG_6911IMG_6916IMG_6982IMG_6925

IMG_7055IMG_7139IMG_6948IMG_7007After a snack stop at their snack stop (no pictures โ˜น๏ธ) we then left Petite France around 4pm to the bus stop to make our long long long journey back to Hongdae for dinner. We waited for the bus for about nearly 30mins and gosh was the bus packed. We had to stand the whole bus ride back to the station (About 30mins but its alright).

We were supposed to have Andong Jimddak for dinner but we could not find the restaurant we wanted to go and hence hop into a random BBQ restaurant to try their food. I highly recommend the beef skirt!!! It is so so so good omgosh. The pork were really good too! Their pork in general is just so much more tastier then what you can find in Singapore. The pork are really fresh unlike those we have in Singapore that has this slight smelly pork taste? I dont know, but I’m alright with what we have here but it’s just so tasty there.ย ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚IMG_7148IMG_7149IMG_7154Holy cow (Literally)ย ๐ŸคฃIMG_8257We then stopped by ‘Kiss the Tiramisu’ for some desert! Although it is rather pricey, the taste is worth it. (Totally reminiscing the memories with Shi Hui the year before where we broke the cup while eating this in the super cold weather with the super cold wind blowing at us ๐Ÿคฃ)ย ย IMG_7172We then walked around a little before ending our day.ย ๐Ÿ˜„ย IMG_7174
